“Escapism”is a typical theme in American literature, which is especially prominent in the post-war literature. By analyzing The Catcher in the Rye by J.D.Salinger and“Tetralogy of Rabbit”by John Updike, this paper tries to explore the new manifestation of“escapism”after WWII and its specific characteristics in different literary works which reflect the particular social and cultural realities.
