Educational informatization has given new missions to the construction of liberal arts in higher education, and the concepts and practices of new liberal arts construction have emerged in response to the times requirement. As an im- portant course for the internationalization of higher education, it is the right choice for college English to build a smart teaching model based on the new liberal arts to promote the fundamental task of " cultivating people with morality" and the reform of English education. Based on this background, the article analyzes the problems faced in the practice of the cur- rent smart teaching mode of college English, including the lack of new ideas, the incomplete subject, the lack of technical elements, and the absence of specific models. According to these problems and the undesirable results it caused, we should start with updating the top-level concept, ensuring that the main body is comprehensive, fully integrating new in- formation technology, and rationally adopting deep learning models as effective strategies for the reform of college English smart teaching mode.
