Taking the case at Xichang College as an example,this paper illustrates the significance of military training for college students in minority areas during the new period of harmonious society. Military training helps to cultivate students'patriotism sensibilities,to take shape collective or team spirit,to strengthen sense of discipline and to promote ethnic unity. In addition,some good practice and experience are introduced from the work of military training in Xichang College during the past few years.
