Of all the epics of Yi people, Zhige Alu is respected as an outstanding epic masterpiece bearing profound cultural connotation and significance. The epic, if viewed as a common phenomenon in literature and referred to other epics, has some most common attributes in that it hasa very old content, co-composed by ethnic groups, strongly featured with mythology, sacrality and specific historicity, which were orally spread along with its ethnical and ideal heroes. The epic depicts an ancient hero Zhige Alu as the epitome of courage, integrity, peace, and love.
