Abstract:During the reign of Hongzhi Emperor in the Ming Dynasty, the theory of retro poetry represented by the former and the latter seven scholars quickly swept through and presided over the national poetic circle for a hundred years, triggering a national trend of retro poetry creation. At that time, the Bashu poets in the southwest part of China (Sichuan area) dared to confront against the trend, calmly examining this powerful retro trend and pointing out various drawbacks in the theory of retro poetry of the former and the latter seven scholars based on the three aspects of poetry essence, poetry aesthetics and poetry creation. They expressed their theoretical standpoint of upholding the traditional poetics. In addition, the traditional poetics of Bashu poets in the middle and late Ming Dynasty also showed that they wouldn''t follow the Poetics of retro genre in the debate between pro-retro and anti-retro schools, exhibiting a unique style in the poetry circles in the middle and late Ming Dynasty.
