Abstract:Yan Jidao's literary work, Xiao Shan Collection of Ci had recorded the countenance, emotion and life experience of sing-song girls. These female singers were originally approachable to Yan, but at last they merely stayed in his memories about the remote past because of Yan's declined family and drifting life. In Chinese traditional literature, the flowers' beauty and humans' spiritual quintessence have a high degree of similarity, which enlightened Yan to use the "flower" imago to set off females, or compare females to flowers. Yan created a horary link between singers and himself by the“flowers”media to endow feminine beauty with deep implication, and manifest his love stories happening in the background of flowers. Yan Jidao has a unique perspective that regarding female singers as his emotional carrier and valuing their feelings, which is different from other scholar-bureaucrats who normally treat sing-song girls as tools for amusing males. Yan's broad outlook has bestowed mental transcendentalist and artistic appeal in Xiao Shan Collection of Ci.
