In the Chinese novel of ＂Shui Hu Zhuan＂, there are many rhetoric devices, which can not only enhance the artistic appeal, but also will add more difficulties to the translation of it. Eugene A. Nida＇ s theory of functional equivalence has been defined on the basis that the readers of a translated text should be able to understand and appreciate it in essentially the same manner as the original readers did.
