Abstract:This paper,based on the data from CLEC and BNC,analyses the characteristics and differences between the synonyms:"refuse"and"reject"in using frequencies,collocations and colligations of the two synonyms,and explores the problems and reasons in using the two synonyms for chinese learners.The research findings indicate that the learners have the problems of a limited collocational range as well as the over-used and under-used collocation.The paper aims to provide a new perspective and method for vocabulary research and the teaching of synonyms.
