Abstract:In modern Chinese, Zhe (者)is not an auxiliary but a suffix because all the auxiliary words are about syntax, to form a new configuration while all the suffixes are about accidence, to form words. In terms of grammatical functions, Zhe ( 者 ) is to transfer the etyma into a nominal structure. In terms of its semantic function, Zhe ( 者 ) is to transfer reference, denoting one kind of person.
