The distinctive features of legal language are preciseness and accuracy. However in practice, hedges are common in legal language. The present paper looks into the hedges in legislative language from the pragmatic perspective, analyzing the use and pragmatic functions of hedges, and points out that in this specific legal context, hedges are adopted to enhance the preciseness and stability of law and to maintain judicial justice.
