Abstract:This paper aims to explore the nature of Seng Zhao's linguistic view from his theory on the problem of name and reality. The monk Seng Zhao thought that nominal-real relation showed that there was no symmetrical relation between language and the object it signified, so language was illusory. In his view, the essence of the instrumentality of language in secular truths is the false names, and to avoid confusion brought about by false names, language must abide by the speech logic of not landing on both sides and not landing in language, and at the same time, the speech consciousness of no empty names and titles should be developed.
