Abstract:In the Qing Dynasty, there were six colloquial words " beishou ( 被首)" ," biaogua ( 摽挂)" , " danyue ( 耽 约)" , " feisuo(飞索)" , " longchang(拢场)" , and" toushui(投税)" in the archives of the Nanbu county government of- fices. Their meanings were abstruse. According to their context and the handed -down literature, this paper interprets them as “the first defendant”, “sacrifice”, “loyalty to agreements”, “extortion”, “attendance” and “paying taxes” re- spectively, so as to eliminate reading obstacles of the Nanbu archives, supplement vocabulary collection of dictionaries, and advance or delay documentary evidence.
