Abstract:The Qing Dynasty was a period of diversified economic forms in Yunnan. With increased frequency of economic exchanges, more and more contractual documents sprang up. Crucial to people′s livelihood, land transactions were often more rigorous and prudent than other transactions. Therefore, land sale contracts with legal force were drawn up to guaran ̄tee the interests of both parties of the transaction. In this paper, 17 land sale contracts in Luquan, Yunnan are selected from Translations and Annotations of the Bimo Scriptures & Accounting Records of Yi Ethnic Minority in the Qing Dynasty. With the social and economic forms at that time taken into consideration, this book describes the components and charac ̄teristics of the land sale contracts in the Yi ethnic area and analyzes the cultural elements embodied in the contracts from two perspectives: the traditional culture of their own nationality and the influence of other nationalities. The book also il ̄ lustrates the impact of the integration of multiple ethnic cultures on land sales contracts.
