Abstract:Translators' perspectives on mythology inevitably and unconsciously transformed or affected their English translations of mythological figures' appellations in The Journey to the West when transforming the source language to the target language by means of various translation strategies. Through detailed case studies of the translations of Gods and Spirits names in Anthony C. Yu's and W.J.F.Jenner's English versions of The Journey to the West , this paper finally comes to a conclusion: Lefevere's manipulation and rewriting theory, Venuti's domestication and foreignization strategy, and Chinese traditional perspectives of mythology have jointly affected the translations of mythological figures' appellations in The Journey to the West .
