Abstract:In the process of urbanization, the frequent migration of population has changed old language balance. The thesis probes to the new Immigrants’attitudes to the standard Chinese and their own dialects in Chenzhou, a third-tier city, from perspective of linguistics. The investigation shows that their dialects are superior emotionally and inferior functionally, and they aspire to learn well the standard Chinese language, so do their descendants. The results show the superiority of mandarin, the weak status of dialect and the contradictory psychological state of the new immigrants to their hometown dialect.
