Abstract:The Book of Change is the learning of self-discipline. It inspires the seeking of Tao, and amounts to the understanding and handling of all earthly affairs. Its thoughts are based on integrity and nature, and lay stress on humanism and the unity of heaven and man. The Hexagram of Meng, being the fourth hexagram in The Book of Change, contains rich educational thoughts that emphasizes "the honorable man breeds virtue with resolute behaviors", which includes ideas such as: education makes no social distinction, and exerts reasonable disciplinary power and avoids sternness. Learning requires strong willpower and a willing heart, asks for courage to brave difficulties, and necessitates a receptive mind. The teachings in the Hexagram of Meng provide inspirations for modern student management: teachers must improve professional skills and self-cultivation; management should check erroneous ideas at the outset; teaching must be in accordance with students' aptitude, and disciplinary actions must be used with caution. By following the thoughts in the Hexagram of Meng, teachers are to elevate themselves while elevating the students.
