Abstract:Synaesthesia, a mental phenomenon, plays an important role in literature and art, especially in the creation and appreciation of poetry. Ingenious translation of poetry seems like the recreation of literature and art, and synaesthesia, the strategy of translating by similar feelings, can make readers immersive as if they were in the scene through imagination, thus they get infected and resonate with the original. In Guo Moruo' s translation of Rubaiyat, all the shifts, whether between writer and translator, or the original work and the translated work, are natural and flexible due to the application of synaesthesia. This has an academic value in studying poetic translation theory and also helps to promote the development of translation practice in prose, poetry and other prettified literature.
