Abstract:Tennessee Williams is one of the best playwrights in America.A Streetcar Named Desire is considered the most representative work among his works.The aim of this paper is to analyze the theme,theme compositions and symbolism of A Streetcar Named Desire.With his unique insight,Tennessee Williams has skillfully used varied symbols to show the conflicts between the traditional south and the modern north during the course of America’s industrialization and to reveal the hero’s and heroine’s private,dark,turbulent,rude character and psychology,to deduce a tragedy of modern social corruption.
