The pronunciation of 巫 both in Modern Chinese Dictionary and Xinhua Dictionary is"wu",without special pronunciation as a family name. But Xichang people read 巫 as"mu". Through investigation and check of documents,it is found that most of the clansmen with the family name 巫 in Xichang were Hakkanese who immigrated from Jiayingzhou,Guangdong in the Qing dynasty. Hakkanese language and other southern dialects still hold some ancient pronunciation. In Hakkanese language,the consonant of many words is"m".
