Abstract:The Romance of West Chamber is one of the most important and famous works in Chinese classical plays and a love story between Chui Ying-ying and Zhang Jun-rui.Under the help of a woman matchmaker, they broke the bondage of feudalism, which demands to marry according to parents’orders, and married each other secretly. The love story ended with a good ending. If we illustrate Chui Ying-ying and Zhang Jun-rui’s love story in terms of"bitterness from trouble"in Buddhism,we may find out that it is not only an understanding to their love, but also to our life.In the process of interpreting,we can have a better understanding towards the thoughts of the phrases "bitterness from unavailable","bitterness from missing","bitterness from parting","bitterness from loss"and "bitterness from the meeting of evil".
