Compliments are ＂oral presents＂ to others,through which the speakers can adjust relationship with them.Owing to different cultural background,there are some differences existing in the compliments used in English and Chinese.This paper probes English and Chinese compliments in these aspects：linguistic form,topic,response and gender difference.
