The debate is the cradle of truth and can promote the social development. People are keen on the debate, Especially in today＇s society, competition-style debate is more frequent in a variety of occasions. In a lot of time, the starting point of the competition-style is mainly to demonstrate and practice such skills as knowledge, wisdom, eloquence and technique. However, I believe that the real purpose of competition-style debate is to understand, to learn and to disseminate the truth. To achieve this aim, the organizers of the debate should first choose a reasonable, clear, scientific topic. From the content and form, this article probes into the issue of the nature of competition-style debate.
