With the “cultural turn” of translation studies, traditional prescriptive approach to translation studies which highlights fidelity to the original text reveals its limitations and gives place to descriptive approach. This approach examines translations against the macro social-cultural background of the target culture and the various factors which contribute to its presence. As a valuable academic proposition, “creative treason”, borrowed from comparative literature, follows this trend. How does creative treason support and expose the shortcomings of descriptive translation studies? This paper undertakes to present further analysis.
