The study analyzes the needs of Yi students' English learning with a purpose to help increase the efficiency of English teaching of Yi students. Four investigation instruments were employed in the study to accumulate information as comprehensively as possible. The result of the investigation shows that there exists a great deal of difference between the needs of Yi students and that of Chinese students, so the curriculum that is designed specifically to Chinese students does not fit Yi students. Based on the information gathered in the needs analysis, four suggestions are put forward on tailoring the curriculum specific to Yi students.
