Abstract:As a Confucian classic, The Analects of Confucius not only produced far-reaching influence on the Chinese way of thinking and culture, but also has become a fashion for many scholars who try to translate it into English or interpret it in recent years. Due to different perspectives of the translators or misunderstanding of the content, the same terms are translated differently. On the basis of the English translation concept: "the closest natural equivalence" and according to the lexical equivalence, this paper analyzes the translations of "gentleman" and "villain" which have rich cultural connotations in the Analects of Confucius, presenting the current translations of these two words, pointing out some problems and trying to give a more appropriate translation.
