Abstract:"The Cowherd and Weaver Girl", as a classic literary motif integrating ancient Chinese literature and astronomical thought, underwent new transformations in literary creation during the Southern Dynasties. During this period, confusion in the cognition of the two sets of star asterisms "Hegu (River Drum) – Weaver Girl" and "Niuxiu (Ox Mansion) – Nüxiu (Maid Mansion)" provided space for literary imagination. The moralizing narrative turn of the Qixi legend also made the theme of "encounter" the core focus of literary composition.Poetry and prose presented a trend of "deification of the Weaver Girl" and "marginalization of the Cowherd":the Weaver Girl was endowed with royal ceremonial processions and integrated into the genealogy of goddesses;the Cowherd, on the other hand, receded into the background due to the legend of celestial ascension and authorial self-projection.This reflects the creative tendency of Qixi literature in the Southern Dynasties: "depicting the Heavenly River yet resonating with the human world",expanding the expressive dimensions of this theme and exerting a far-reaching influence on the use of poetic imagery in later generations.
