Among ancient men of letters ever residing in Liangshan region,Yang Shen is the most famous one.His Song of Southern Plum Blossom is a masterpiece among the ancient poems describing the scenery in Liangshan region.However, this poem has never been studied systematically in academia.This study collated different versions of the poem and checked its content and composing time.By exploring the ancient tradition about composing odes to the plum blossoms,particularly about the relationship between Su Shi''s and other poets'' works in Song Dynasty, this study reveals that Yang Shen''s poem implicitly and deliberately inherits Su Shi pioneered tradition in writing odes to plum blossoms while in exile. Its literary achievements,historical significance and its cultural value for Liangshan and other places of Sichuan Province are worth cherishing.
