With a study on the history and types of the Yi beauty competitions, the paper analyzes their traditional criteria, patterns, and social functions. Influenced by the imported beauty culture and the governmental initiative of "inheriting cultures for economic returns", the social functions and cultural values of beauty competitions have gradually been undermined. The paper therefore holds that government authorities should give corresponding support to beauty competitions on touch festival celebrations, which should respect traditional cultures as well as learn from modern styles in beauty competitions.
