Abstract:With speeding-up trend of population aging, traditional family and institutional care for the elderly in China can no longer meet the needs in urban and rural communities, resulting in various problems. The current elderly care model should be more diversified based on its original functions, differentiated according to the different needs, and continuously meet the comprehensive and multi-level care needs of the elderly. Therefore, the mutual-assistance style of elderly care services have become an important direction in promoting the development of the elderly care service system. However,mutual-assistance elderly care also faces problems such as difficulty in promotion and insufficient support from basic-level governments. In consideration of actual situations in China and from the perspective of social work, this paper aims to draw on the successful experiences of developed countries and explore the ways how urban and rural communities in China can integrate social resources and build a social support system for mutual-assistance elderly care services,in order to solve the current elderly care problems in Chinese society.
