In recent years，the phenomenon of college students''"lying flat" has attracted widespread attention in academic circles.It is university educators'' historical mission and responsibility to correctly understand this phenomenon and to cultivate college students'' spirit of strife for the best. Through questionnaire surveys and interviews with 32 universities in 8 provinces，the first-hand information on this phenomenon was obtained. Our research analysis suggests that this phenomenon need to be corrected by cultivating college students''spirit of strife for the best.By exploring this phenomenon''s evolution，analyzing its characteristics，origin，nature，and impact，we propose an approach for cultivating college students'' spirit of strife for the best from three aspects：stimulating their endogenous motives，promoting their realistic incentives， and guaranteeing their developmental motives.
