In Jude the Obscure, Thomas Hardy successfully employs the narrative strategy-irony. The success of this strategy in this novel lies in the arrangement of circular structure, the alternative usage of the omniscient point of view and the limited omniscient point of view and the control of the narrative distance which in turn contribute to the presentation of the theme of this novel.
