Abstract:Leisure tourism, a new tourism form featuring leisure and simplicity, emphasizes experience of local lifestyle. Chengdu, with its leisure life and its honor as a UNESCO City of Fine Food, is an ideal place for leisure tourism. Our study conducts a comparative analysis of Chengdu and its sister city Mountpellier in terms of culture, location, tourism resources, food, entertainment and transportation to explore Chengdu's strengths and weaknesses in leisure tourism. Strategies in Mountpellier’s tourism development, city construction and resources conservation can also be followed to further develop the leisure tourism of Chengdu.
