| A Hunger Artist is a short story in Kafka's later writing. There are two contradictions inevitable and
irreconcilable implied in this novel tactfully through the absurd plot of hunger performance. One is the relationship
of hunger performance and his body symbolized by the contradiction of arts and materials, and the other one is the
relationship of hunger artists and the public symbolized by the contradiction of arts and the public. Then they
express the thought from the essence of art and the effort for the artistic pursuit. Meanwhile they are also a reflection
of Kafka's writing career. Therefore, the short novel might be seen as a fable about Kafka. |
